OPI New York City Ballet SoftShades Collection 2012

Hello! So I found out that OPI has a new collection coming out in April 2012, but I actually found the stuff in stores already. This is OPI's New York City Ballet collection and contains 6 polishes, 5 sheer jellies and 1 glitter for layering. The timing for this was perfect for me because I woke up today thinking that I needed to paint my nails something "work appropriate" for my first day tomorrow, and I really wanted to do a sheer white. All I had was OPI Bubble Bath, which is a sheer pink...until I got this collection. Leggo!

OPI Don't Touch My Tutu!
This is OPI Don't Touch My Tutu! and it is what I'm wearing right now. I love it! It's a really sheer white...the opacity of this makes the color look very cotton-y or cloud-like and mellow. I used 2 coats for this.

OPI Don't Touch My Tutu!+Pirouette My Whistle
Closer look at OPI Pirouette MyWhistle
I layered OPI Pirouette My Whistle over Don't Touch My Tutu! Pirouette My Whistle is an interesting silver, multi-sized glitter. It's got tiny silver glitter with larger hexagonal glitter. It's also not your usual silver that is seen everywhere...the actual glitter pieces are either a "light silver" color or have a matte finish. As a result, it's not as in-you-face sparkly. This glitter is pretty scarce and definitely made for layering, I only did 1 coat.

Awesome gradient
This is the same combination but I just wanted to include this picture because it shows why I would ever bother wearing sheer nail polishes...just look at that color gradient! I think that's the coolest thing ever.

OPI My Pointe Exactly
Next one I got is OPI My Pointe Exactly. This is a sheer, pastel, gray. This one was more sheer than Don't Touch My Tutu! because I used 3 coats here.

I layered OPI Pirouette My Whistle over My Pointe Exactly just for show. Voilà!

OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre?
Here is OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre? This is very cute, but I really wish I didn't get this! The other pink in this collection was called Barre My Soul and I literally took OPI Bubble Bath from their selection, and compared the bottles. Barre My Soul looked exactly like Bubble Bath in the bottle, so I didn't get it. I got You Callin' Me A Lyre? instead because it was a little darker in the bottle.

OPI Bubble Bath (left) vs OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre? (right)
In the bottle, You Callin' Me A Lyre is a little darker pink...I had to compare it on my nails to see if the difference transferred though.

OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre? (index, ring)
OPI Bubble Bath (middle, pinky)
Damn it...looks like a dupe. You Callin' Me A Lyre? is on the index and ring finger, and Bubble Bath is on the middle and pinky finger. In person, there was a little difference...I found You Callin' Me A Lyre? to be a little bit more opaque (less layers) than Bubble Bath. Also Bubble Bath was a tad bit lighter...but not significantly enough that I'll want to keep both. I'm calling it a dupe.

OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre?+Pirouette My Whistle
Here, I layered OPI Pirouette My Whistle over You Callin' Me A Lyre? This is such a cute multi-sized glitter, I really like it!

OPI Care To Danse?
This is OPI Care To Danse, which is a sheer, pastel purple. I love the color gradient this one produced! I used 3 coats for this.

OPI Care To Danse?+Pirouette My Whistle
I layered OPI Pirouette My Whistle over Care To Danse? I don't know why this looks pink all of a sudden! Something happened with the lighting...the sun has been coming in and out all day today.

Anyways, that is what I got from this collection. I am really happy with it, except for You Callin' Me A Lyre? But only because I already own a dupe for that...the polish itself is very nice! This collection is a nice change, especially since after all the crazy, opaque colors I've been wearing, I felt like wearing something a little more toned down. This really hit the spot. Also I'm a sucker for anything French themed. À bientôt!

  4. I love OPI and this collection is very cute ! I am just sorry for the dupe, it's annoying when it happens...anyway it happens often to me when I have to choose different pale pink shades...they tend to look the same on my fingers !
